Starlink accessories are not one size fits all. A mount or cable made for the Mini will not fit a Standard dish, and the power requirements are very different. This guide explains the main differences so you can shop with confidence.
The quick comparison
- Size: the Mini is a compact, backpack friendly dish. The Standard (Gen 3) is a larger, full size dish.
- Router: the Mini has its WiFi router built in. The Standard uses a separate router that also powers the dish.
- Power: Starlink lists the Mini at roughly 25 to 40 watts average on a 12 to 48V DC input. The Standard typically draws considerably more, commonly quoted around 75 to 100 watts, and is supplied with an AC power supply.
- Cables: the Mini uses a DC barrel cable and can run from suitable USB C Power Delivery. The Standard uses a proprietary dish cable between dish and router.
Mounts
Mini mounts are designed around the Mini's kickstand or pipe adapter, and some fit only specific adapter versions. Standard mounts are larger and are built for the Standard's mounting interface. Shop Starlink Mini accessories or Starlink Standard Gen 3 accessories to see only what fits.
Power on the road
For the Mini, 12V step up converters, USB C leads and power tool battery adapters are all practical. For the Standard, use a 12V DC adapter designed for the Gen 3 system, such as the Gen 3 12V Car Power Adapter, rather than running a large inverter.
Cables and networking
Standard owners often need longer runs: we stock 100 ft and 165 ft Gen 3 cables. If you need wired devices, the 4 Port Ethernet Adapter works with both Gen 3 and Mini.
How to check fit
- Confirm your dish model in the Starlink app or on the label.
- Read the "Fits" line in each product's specification list.
- For Mini mounts, check which adapter version is supported.
- For cables, check connector type and length.
